Description

Ara Moana Bungalows lies on the east coast of Mangaia, one of the oldest islands in the world. Here you will experience a unique landscape with spectacular views and amazing caves all in an unspoilt Polynesian culture. This is a small property with only six bungalows. Two Spacious Bungalows (4.8 m x 3.4m) have a double and a single bed and a couple of chairs and a table. The remaining four Standard Bungalows (3.6m x 2.4m) have a double bed. All have private shower/toilet, ceiling fan and screened windows. There is a bar and restaurant on site with a qualified chef. Mangaia is for the traveller who wants experience pristine nature. The island’s main feature is an ancient coral reef, called Makatea, which rose up 60 metres from the ocean a couple of million years ago. A good way to see this is on foot. There are a number of hiking trails that cross over this remarkable partly forested landscape which is also riddled with caves. A guided cave tour is a must as you will also then learn more of Mangaia’s history and biology. For a traveller who wants to relax, a sightseeing tour by car might be more appealing. This tour will take you through old lagoon bottom inside the Makatea and up into the forested highlands in the centre. Fishing Tours can also be arranged. Your hosts Jan & Tu will ensure you will experience what Mangaia has to offer. Jan speaks Swedish, German, French, and some Spanish and Italian.
