Dwarka is named after Lord Krishna's Kingdom...this kingdom was considered a myth for centuries till it was recently discovered beneath the ocean off Gujarat, a coastal state in india.
We, too, found our piece of paradise in Goaduring the same time and called it "Dwarka"..
oa has a timeless charm.....Its uniqueness lies in the fact that whilst creating a delicate synthesis of various cultures, it has retained its inherent soul.
Dwarka is about 45 kms from the international airport and 30 kms from the nearest railway station. Local taxis at a reasonable cost can be arranged.
One has to pass a lot of small hamlets and villages to reach Dwarka. The last 2.5 km is a dirt track with no sign of a resort at the end of it. One then passes a narrow path amongst bushes to reveal 10 thatched cottages set between a fresh water lagoon and the sea and connected with a wooden bridge!!
Dwarka is open from the 1st week of November till the 1st week of May. As we are so close to the beach we are not allowed to build permanent structures and hence we dismantle the entire resort and pack it up in a huge store room. It takes us 60 days to construct it again from scratch and a month to dismantle and put everything back.
We have tried to keep Dwarka simple and eco friendly and yet with all modern luxuries.
The rooms have 2 big windows to allow breeze to cross-ventilate and to enable you to see the sea and the lagoon at the same time. All cottages have a Fan and a steel cupboard, where you can lock your personal belongings.
Lunch and dinner is served at our restaurant, built on a cliff edge, where you can hear the sound of fresh water flowing into the ocean. Lunch and dinner includes chicken and fish besides lot of other dishes. You can then have the luxury of losing yourself on the beach, bathing in the sea or in the most overwhelming natural pool of crystal clear fresh water. There are hammocks in front of every room for you to just lay back and relax under the palm trees.
Evening tea and cookies will be served while you watch the sun set, either from the beach or atop a hill. After dinner, sit around a comforting bon fire and join in a singsong if you feel like, or just lay back and watch the skies unfold to a galaxy of stars.
As we are a bit remote we do not have the government supply of electricity, so we run a generator from 6pm in the evening. All rooms have normal plug points if you want to charge your phones/ipods/batteries etc.
We offer many traditional therapies, from Rejuvenation Therapies, to Ayurvedic Massage and Yoga.
There are lots of things to do at Dwarka from fishing with the locals, to dolphin-spotting, birdwatching, hiking or excursions by car to places of beauty and interest.. From this year we plan to organise bike rides to local remote villages. At night we have a bonfire on the beach which gives the guests a chance to interact, or just to sit and watch millions of stars. We have a guitar in the resort if someone likes to play and sing. The local boys sometimes also sing some of their songs.
We have partnered Dwarka with local people. All our staff is from nearby villages and have interesting stories to tell if you want to know how they live their lives.
