Our guesthouse has two tatami rooms that are simple but cozy, but if you would like a more ‘natural’ experience, we also have a treehouse and an area for camping. We welcome families with children, pets, groups and events.
We aim to be self-sufficient and our only source of water is gathering rainfall so our facilities are quite rustic with a solar shower (in season) and composting toilet. Full bathing facilities are nearby at Yurari Onsen Hot Springs which is a 20 minute walk from the cafe and farm, with a wide variety of outdoor baths, herb baths, sauna, traditional Japanese wooden bath, massage, private baths for couples and families, etc.
Our Farm Volunteer program lets you get your hands in the dirt and learn a little about our farming methods. Volunteer for a morning or afternoon in our fields and we provide lunch or dinner at no charge. Farm Guests can rent a room or camp at our regular rates, and both long-term and short-term visits are welcome.
Local Outdoor Activities: Within walking distance there are many natural features to experience.
- The Narusawa Ice Caves and Wind Caves are an easy 15-minute hike from the cafe through the Aokigahara Lava Forest.
- Lake Saiko is a nice half-day hike and great for swimming in the summer.
- Mt Koyodai just behind the farm is an easy 1-hour hike with a lookout point on top from which you can view Fuji-san and 3 of the 5 Lakes.
- We have two horse riding stables within walking distance.
- At Kiso Uma Ranch you can ride traditional Japanese horses through the forest. A 40 minute guided tour is about 3000yen.
- Paddy Field is another ranch with thoroughbred horses and full riding lessons available.
The Solar Cafe Farm grows fruit, berries, herbs and vegetables for our cafe menu and the Mt Fuji Natural Teas. We combine our own sustainable agriculture methods with Permaculture, Natural Farming and Bio-dynamics. Our beautiful fields work in harmony with the surrounding nature. Our goal is to demonstrate and educate people about organic and natural farming techniques, and to encourage and support small profitable organic farms in Japan and around the world.
