A charming family run eco-lodge nestling in sprawling acres of woodland and farm, the Chambal Safari is an attempt to acquaint visitors with a land that has retained its unique landscapes, rugged charm and rare wildlife. A magical land far removed from the chaotic madness of modern cities. The Lodge kitchens serve authentic ‘home cooked’ meals with fresh organically grown ingredients. Our cooks have been in the family for generations and our recipes include local specialties that have been fine-tuned over the years. The sprawling grounds of the Chambal Safari Lodge are home to numerous birds and small mammals. Evening Nature Walks around the Lodge, with our resident Naturalist, are the best time to go looking for Palm Civet Cats, Foxes, Jungle Hares, Fruit Bats, Hedgehogs and the Indian Striped Hyenas. With a checklist of over 170 birds, birding in the Lodge grounds starts with the ‘wake call’ of the Barbets & Babblers, and continues through the day and well into the evening. A wildlife experience with a River Safari, quite unlike any other. The National Chambal Sanctuary (NCS) is a 400 km stretch of the river Chambal and is one of the last surviving habitats of the Gangetic River Dolphin. The Sanctuary boasts of a rapidly increasing and impressive bird list of over 290 species of resident and migratory birds and is gaining a reputation as one of the most reliable places to see the Indian Skimmer. It also provides protection for 1200 Gharials & 300 Marsh Crocodiles and is home to Smooth-coated Otters and eight species of Turtles.
