The Old Schoolhouse is located in 3/4 acres wildlife garden surrounded by woodlands and close to tributories of the Shannon River.
Originally a schoolhouse serving the local rural community, the refurbished schoolhouse was designed with energy conservation and ecological principles in mind. Solar panels and pellet boiler provides underfloor heating and domestic hot water. Rainwater harvesting conserves water for toilet flushing and gardening. Waste water has 4 stages of treatment including sand filteration and reed bed technology. The refurbishment recycled materials where ever possible including the use of rubber slates recycled from car tyres. The accommodation is 4 star approved and includes a high level of comfort.
Clients are encouraged to borrow and replenish the considerable library of books. Children can be entertained by the Nintendo Wii and slate bed pool table (adults are welcome to use).
A woodburning stove creates a relaxing environment in the lounge for those autumnal days after a bracing country walk.
