The Napo Wildlife Centeris the ultimate luxury eco-hotel in Amazonian Ecuador. This ecotourism project conserves over 82 square miles (53,500 acres - over 21,400 hectares ) of the most pristine Amazon Rain Forest within the Yasunì National Park. It is an important UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the largest tract of tropical rain forest in Ecuador.
The Lodge complex is located on the shores of the Anangucocha Lake, within the unique ancestral territory of the Anangu Quichua Community. In the early 90’s the community envisioned building their own lodge to provide jobs and protect their land. They wanted high quality facilities and accommodations, to provide an exclusive and personalized rainforest experience.
With great effort they built 4 guest accommodations and a large building for the kitchen and dining room. However, there was insufficient funding to complete the complex and the Lodge remained incomplete for many years. Finally in 2000, after several local and international agencies agreed to provide additional finance, the project was able to move forward and establish the community’s dream.
The community approached the Ecuadorian Ministry of Environment, which declared them honorific park rangers and approved the project. Thus, in 2003, the Napo Wildlife Center was born, the most carefully designed first-class Amazon lodge in Ecuador.
Since then the NWC has been recognized by both guests and companies for its impeccable operation, its service, and the experience provided to all visitors. The Lodge has received many reviews and awards: the New York Times featured us in its travel section in 2004, the BBC from the UK visited in the same year for a nature special; Victor Emanuel declared it as “One of the top 10 birding sites of the world” during his lecture at the 2004 British Birdwatching Fair; the World Travel Market in London named the Lodge as Best in a Protected Area in 2006.
The Lodge itself is beautiful, with local architecture, hardwood floors and well-considered amenities. Nearby blinds built at parrot 'clay licks' bring the action to you, a 120-foot canopy tower deep in the forest allows you to experience life above the forest floor, and expert guides identify the incredible number of wildlife species to be found in the Reserve.
We invite you to visit this special destination, the premier Amazon lodge in Ecuador: the Napo Wildlife Center.
