On the remote west side of Shetland you can find spectacular scenery, peace, and the ideal refuge for the escapist. Twenty seven miles out of Lerwick, on a promontory facing the island of Vaila, stands the eighteenth-century house of Burrastow
Burrastow House can sleep a maximum of 12 and sit 20 people for dinner.
Burrastow is the ideal place to come for one of those "get away from it all" holidays. Our location offers great walking and wildlife.
Our food is not the kind that lies on a bed of something, with something else in it, round it, on top of it and finally something incompatible drizzled over it! We prefer to use fine fresh ingredients, simply cooked with uncomplicated sauces that enhance or compliment the natural favours.
Otters and seals may be seen from the windows and wild orchids flourish in the grounds. The house welcomes you with peat fires, a cosy library and all the marvellous food you could want after a day's exploring.
There is a conference facility for up to 25 and workshop space for regular summer workshops.
Burrastow has access to a boat available to take residents off to explore Vaila Sound. There is excellent fishing, windsurfing and sea-angling available in the area. There is a shop, post office and swimming pool two miles away in Walls, which has a bus service to Lerwick every day except Sundays.
Children are catered for and some pets are welcome.
Menus are changed daily with vegetarian and special diets catered for. The wine list includes a selection of organic wines and bottled beers. Dinners are served in the panelled dining room and conservatory.
